About the Role:

The Lean function within Vistaprint is responsible for facilitating and coaching the ongoing adoption and deployment of lean principles, tools and techniques in our Vistaprint manufacturing plants, while taking tactical steps to add value at every opportunity. The Lead Lean Specialist will be part of a team of Lean Specialists in pursuit of these directives reporting to the Lean Manager North America.

The Lead Lean Specialist will contribute to all aspects of establishing and sustaining a Lean production and management system in Vistaprint plants. The main areas of responsibility for this position include the deployment of standardized Lean methodologies that fit the needs of the business, providing training in lean tools and techniques, implementing Lean through waste reduction and burden removal to foster improvements in the work areas, coaching and leading groups on various lean initiatives in pursuit of company objectives or specific priorities to impact designated key metrics for improvement. The Lead Lean Specialist must be a strong collaborator, have good listening capabilities, and be recognized as a subject matter expert on fundamental lean tools and techniques, who can demonstrate their capabilities very much in a practical manner on the shop floor. Close partnering with the key manufacturing groups in the business that impact manufacturing will be an essential part of this person’s role, relationship building, and integrity are key aspects to sustaining the deployment of lean tools and principles. These groups include Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Supply Chain and Senior Management.


What You Will Do:


  • Partner with internal customers (area leads) to tactically implement Lean Principles in order to solve challenging problems, apply the right tool sets, standardize, and sustain performance.
  • Assist in the development of planning & execution of plant/VSO projects and initiatives for tactical application of Lean to support continuous improvement activities.
  • Can teach the Lean fundamental approaches to continuous improvement in a highly sophisticated manufacturing environment.
  • Can coach practical problem solving to manufacturing and support groups as needed.
  • Can demonstrate Improvement Kata and Coaching Kata and teach the fundamentals.
  • Can apply statistical and analytical methods to stabilize processes.
  • Participate in and lead as directed Lean initiatives within the manufacturing plants, which will encompass the need to provide formal training, continuous mentoring and coaching of employees.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective and sustainable Lean Manufacturing program as directed by the Lean Manager NA, these programs can include:
  • Waste reduction exercises in the plants
  • Improving inventory turns
  • Support on-time delivery to customers
  • Improve and sustain product availability
  • Improve manufacturing KPI’s
  • Reduce manufacturing lead times
  • Ensure no detrimental impact of safety, quality & delivery through the application of Lean
  • Participate in step change projects (Kaizen) and rapid improvement teams (Kaikaku) across multiple manufacturing locations in the region to achieve system deployment, skill development, and effective impact to corresponding KPI’s.
  • Actively participate in sharing & promoting Best Practices across plants.
  • Work to further develop, standardize, and continuously improve the Vistaprint Lean System.


What You Need:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience practicing and implementing Lean within a manufacturing environment
  • A diploma or degree in a relevant field (business, engineering, operations management) is preferred
  • Strong practical knowledge & application of Lean manufacturing principles, tools and methods including Value Stream Mapping, Toyota Kata, Flow, A3 Thinking, Leader/Standard Work, 5S, TPM, 8 wastes, Hoshin Planning, Policy Deployment, Pull Systems, Kanban, Poka Yoke, SMED, PDCA Level Scheduling, Judoka, JIT, OEE, Visual Factory, Root Cause Analysis, Gemba/Waste Walks and Kaizen.
  • Six Sigma / Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is minimum requirement, Black Belt is preferred
  • Experience working with Toyota Production System / Lean Manufacturing
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data
  • Experience with Change Management principles
  • Have a passion for deploying Lean principles with an ability to train and inspire others
  • A hands-on, practical and pragmatic approach to getting tasks done
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Collaboration, and Integrity
  • Attention to detail, organizational and project management skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%
  • Can operation in a fast paced, changing and challenging environment to time-bound deadlines
