About the Role:

The Senior Specialist, Health & Safety serves as a critical support to the local operations management team, contributing to the advancement of EHS performance through the cultivation of a robust health and safety culture. As an integral part of the North American EHS Team, this role demonstrates extensive health and safety expertise to deliver counsel, guidance, and solutions within the Windsor, ON operations. Furthermore, it contributes to the development and maintenance of the North American EHS Management System and supports the overall team objectives.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Exhibit proactive, visible, and outstanding health and safety leadership at all times.
  • Formulate, implement, and maintain EHS Management System (EHS MS) Standards, Procedures, and Programs grounded in regulatory stipulations and acknowledged industry best practices.
  • Oversee adherence to EHS MS programs and initiatives, encompassing program audits.
  • Offer expert recommendations to facility leadership, line management, team members, and visitors/contractors regarding Health and Safety risks, based on regulatory requirements and established industry standard processes.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering in assessing risks related to Machine Safety, Ergonomics, and Chemicals for new and modified equipment or processes, employing Management of Change (MOC) protocols.
  • Develop and conduct Health and Safety Training programs; monitor and report on EHS Training compliance.
  • Manage the software system data entry and data management, including incident management, risk assessments, inspections, corrective and preventive action assignments, reporting, and analysis.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and technical advisor during incident investigations, supporting the identification of root causes and implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Prepare mandatory reports for internal and external partners.
  • Participate in EHS audits (local/regional).
  • Engage with safety regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain the emergency response program; ensure life safety systems, equipment, and programs stay in sync with regulations.
  • Support the identification and achievement of EHS key performance indicators.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Health and Safety opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

What You Need:

The candidate will be a collaborative team member and trusted advisor, responsible for providing expert guidance in occupational health and safety management.

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in a health and safety-related or similar field is preferred.
  • Possession of a safety certification (CRSP preferred).
  • Minimum of five plus (5+) years of experience in developing and coordinating Health and Safety programs (manufacturing experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and provincial health and safety legislation.
  • Proven experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine safety risk assessment and PSR oversight.
  • Understanding of automation and laser safety is preferred.
  • Experience with EHS Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in serving as a change agent within the operating environment and collaborating with the organization/management to enhance safety and health performance with a high level of professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
  • Ability to address and resolve complex safety and health issues with a universal approach.
  • Capability to prepare comprehensive written reports featuring clear findings and recommendations.
  • Interest in positively inspiring change through the development of cooperative networks and the fostering of trust at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and training groups.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and digital literacy skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to travel within and outside of Canada (less than 10% travel).
