Date:  Jul 9, 2025
Location:

Company:  Vista

Our Team:

At VistaPrint, we’re at an exciting point in our journey—building on a strong foundation while accelerating toward a future defined by innovation and differentiated customer experience. Our mission is to empower millions of small businesses to market themselves with confidence and creativity. Join us as we transform the VistaPrint experience.

About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced and thoughtful Director of User Research to help scale the impact of user insights across VistaPrint. This is a key leadership role focused on people, process, and precision research delivery—with a particular emphasis on building the systems and team culture that enable high-quality work to thrive.

You’ll lead a small but mighty team of researchers (~5 direct reports), develop research operations that power the entire function, and personally conduct high-leverage research in support of senior leadership decision-making. You’ll partner closely with Principal Researchers embedded in product verticals, who drive the day-to-day direction of product-specific research.

Importantly, while this role plays a pivotal part in growing and operationalizing our User Research function, the responsibility for setting and owning the overarching research strategy sits with the Senior Director of User Research. That said, this Director role is a key strategic partner—working closely with the Senior Director to help shape and influence the strategy through deep insight into team capabilities, operational realities, and evolving business needs. This structure enables you to focus on team enablement and execution excellence, while playing an active role in broader strategic efforts through close collaboration.

What You Will Do

1. Team Management & People Development

  • Manage, support, and grow a team of ~5 UX researchers, fostering a culture of trust, feedback, and continual learning.

  • Own HR and administrative responsibilities including performance management, career planning, and hiring timelines.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring, tailored to each researcher’s experience level and aspirations.

  • Collaborate with Principal Researchers (who guide product-aligned work) to ensure smooth planning, alignment, and support across the team.

2. Research Operations Leadership

  • Lead the development of ResearchOps systems that increase the quality, speed, and consistency of research across the organization.

  • Establish best practices, manage tooling and vendors, streamline participant recruitment, and implement knowledge management systems.

  • Act as a central connector between research and cross-functional partners such as Procurement, Legal, and IT.

  • Enable the team to scale thoughtfully, while maintaining a high bar for rigor and impact.

3. High-Impact Individual Contributor Research

  • Conduct research that directly supports senior leaders and company-level decisions—particularly in ambiguous, cross-cutting, or high-risk spaces.

  • Use mixed-methods approaches to surface meaningful insights that drive decisions, clarity and action.

  • Communicate findings with precision and empathy, tailored for executive audiences.

  • Bring together qualitative and quantitative data to tell a compelling, well-rounded story of the user experience.

How This Role Fits into the Bigger Picture

This role is part of a broader User Research leadership team. You’ll help shape how the team operates and contribute directly to high-stakes work. Your superpower will be in empowering others, creating scalable systems, and personally stepping in to lead critical work when and where it matters most. You’ll be a key partner in bringing the strategy to life—and making sure it’s sustainable and effective in practice.

Your Qualifications:

At VistaPrint, we are striving to hire individuals that add new ideas and perspectives to our teams and enhance our culture. No matter your background or work experience, we strongly encourage you to apply—even if you feel that you don’t meet the exact requirements or have the same qualifications. You might be a great candidate for this or other opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience managing UX researchers, with a focus on thoughtful people leadership, feedback, and professional development.
  • Excited about getting things done and making an impact; you are pragmatic and not overly focused on "research theater."
  • A strong operational mindset, with a history of building or significantly improving ResearchOps within teams that are navigating growth and scale, especially in distributed settings.

  • Still hands-on in the work: You are a skilled mixed-methods researcher with expertise in a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and have demonstrated the ability to lead research projects that inform and drive high-level decisions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, especially when synthesizing complexity for executive audiences. Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into actionable insights that have directly influenced senior leader decision-making and product strategy.

  • A collaborative spirit, with the ability to build trust across Design, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Commercial.

  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and context-switching between people, process, and project priorities.

Why Join Us?

  • Build the foundation: Help shape how a modern User Research function runs, scales, and thrives.

  • Support great people: Be the kind of leader others want to work with—empathetic, enabling, and invested in team success.

  • Drive meaningful impact: Contribute to decisions that affect millions of small businesses and the future of VistaPrint.

  • Grow your own career: Join a team that values rigor, craft, and growth—for users and for each other.
