About the Role:
The Health and Safey Specialist is a crucial support to the local operations management team, contributing to improving H&S performance by promoting a strong health and safety culture and diligence in health & safety and ergonomics. As a member of the North American EHS Team, you will apply your in-depth H&S knowledge to offer advice, guidance, and solutions within our Windsor, ON operations, while also contributing to development and support of the North American EHS Management System and team.
What You Will Do:
- Provide active, visible, and professional health and safety guidance at all times;
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS Management System (EHS MS) Standards, Procedures, and Programs based on regulatory requirements and recognized industry standard processes; Promote compliance with EHS MS programs and initiatives;
- provide input and recommendations to facility leadership, line management, team members, and visitors/contractors regarding Health and Safety risks based on regulatory requirements and recognized industry standard processes;
- Maintain the Training Management Program; Develop and deliver Health and Safety Training programs; Track and report on EHS Training compliance;
- Serve as ergonomic technical consultant during new or modified workstation, equipment, process design and implementation; Maintain the ergonomic risk assessment database and identify areas for improvement;
- Support the assessment of risk for Machine Safety and Chemical use and handling;
- Serve as a technical consultant for Operations & Engineering during new equipment and process launches or changes. Facilitating machine guarding and process risk assessments, ergonomic risk assessments, and chemical risk assessments including the Pre-Start Health and Safety review process,
- Facilitate the company’s contractor management program;
- Serve as a technical consultant and guide during incident investigations by supporting the identification of root causes and implementation of effective corrective actions;
- Prepare required reports for internal and external use;
- Participate in EHS audits as required (local, regional, global);
- Act as a leader and resource to the location’s Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC); promoting an effective internal responsibility system.
- Support the identification and achievement of safety key performance indicators and metrics;
- Actively engage in continuous improvement activities (kaizens events) to facilitate Health and Safety opportunities;
- Additional responsibilities and changes in responsibilities may be made at the discretion of the EHS Manager
What You Need:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a health and safety related field is preferred
- A safety certification preferred (CRSP or CCPE)
- Five (5) plus years of experience developing and coordinating Health and Safety programs (in manufacturing preferred)
- Knowledge of applicable federal and provincial health and safety legislation and consensus safety standards
- Ability to engage as a change agent to improve safety, health and ergonomics performance with a high level of professionalism, integrity and ethics
- Ability to prepare comprehensive written reports with clear findings and recommendations
- Ability to positively inspire change by developing cooperative networks and building trust at all levels with internal and external partners
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with a various team members, applying strong communication and digital literacy skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and priorities
- Ability to travel inside and outside of Canada (<10% travel)
